Pixieworld.net
Mission Statement
Pixieworld.net is a website dedicated to preserving the memories of sports through photographs.
Some of its aims/characteristics include:
- allowing photographers, fans and athletes to share photos in community galleries that are carefully reviewed to ensure the proper labeling of the photos;
- focusing mainly on sports which belong to one or more of the following categories: artistic sports, individual sports or judged sports;
- providing accurate data in regard to athletes and events, thus preserving sports memories yet on another level;
- respecting copyrights and promoting legal and authorized use of photos on the internet;
- figure skating is the main sport on the site;
History
The domain name Pixieworld.net was first registered to point to a site where celebrities of short stature were listed, naturally the site began featuring many figure skaters and in an attempt to fill a void in the figure skating online world of the time it was transformed into a place for photographers to share their figure skating photos. In 2006 a new sport was added to Pixieworld, acrobatic gymnastics, but unfortunately by then the site was already needing to catch up with web 2.0 trends and shortly after it entered a hiatus mode that has lasted until today. After a few botched attempts to rebuild the site, in 2009 a professional team of software programmers was hired to work in conjunction with the owner and bring the project back to life. Hopefully from now on it will continue on a good track.
